This guide covers seven kohler handheld shower head listings we read: five handhelds and two combo kits that pair a fixed head with a handshower. Listed flow ranges from 1.75 gpm to 2.5 gpm, and one combo kit gives no flow figure. Only the Awaken G110 72415-G-CP states a flow below 2.5 gpm. The listings describe sprays, finish, mounts and hoses. They do not say how a head performs at the pressure your house supplies, and the sources we opened do not say that a head changes that pressure.
Quick answer
- The lowest listed flow is 1.75 gpm, on the Awaken G110 72415-G-CP handheld. Five others state 2.5 gpm, and the Prone combo gives no flow figure.
- The Shift+ 21335-CP lists 2.5 gpm and also names WaterSense (EPA criteria). EPA sets 2.0 gpm as the WaterSense limit, so check the gpm marking on the head before you rely on that label.
- Four of the five handhelds say the shower hose and mounting accessories are not included. Only the two combo kits list a hose in the box.
How we chose
We read seven Kohler listings on 2026-10-22, one listing page per product, from two search pages: kohler handheld shower head and kohler shower head with handheld. A product was kept if it is a Kohler handheld or combo head and its listing states at least one of a flow rate, a spray setting, a finish, a hose or a mount. All seven passed. Two other results were not read. One is a near-duplicate of a combo kit already included, and the other is a rail-style system outside the handheld and combo scope. The sections below group products by type. This is not a ranking. Each product is described only with the facts its listing states, and a missing fact is marked not stated. Where a title and a description disagree, both versions are shown.
Flow, pressure and WaterSense: what the sources say
Flow is measured in gallons per minute (gpm). To estimate the water used in one shower, multiply the listed gpm by the minutes: gallons = gpm x minutes. A 10 minute shower at 1.75 gpm uses 17.5 gallons, and at 2.5 gpm it uses 25. These are arithmetic on the listing figures only. For lower-flow handheld options from other brands, see water-efficient handheld heads.
The EPA consumer page puts standard showerheads at 2.5 gallons per minute. A WaterSense labeled showerhead must show it uses no more than 2.0 gpm, and the WaterSense specification says a covered product shall be marked with its maximum flow in gpm and L/min. A head listed at 2.5 gpm sits above the WaterSense limit, so a WaterSense claim on a 2.5 gpm listing conflicts with that limit.
The specification we read is labeled Version 1.0, and EPA’s showerhead page says Version 1.1 made minor changes. The spec calls for flow measurements at flowing pressures of 20, 45 and 80 psi, and it sets a minimum spray force of 2.0 ounces. Of the seven Kohler listings here, only the 23218-BN combo kit gives a pressure with its flow figure, 45 psi.
Pressure is a separate question. EPA describes its minimum flow requirement as one that provides a minimum flow across a range of household water pressures. The wording suggests flow is judged across what a house can supply. No source we opened says a head changes the pressure supplied to the house. The only residential range in those sources is an irrigation figure of about 40 to 60 psi, from an Oklahoma State fact sheet written for irrigation systems. For water-saving heads that are sold as high pressure, see high-pressure heads that also save water.
Handheld heads sit under the same federal definition. The DOE page says the Energy Policy Act of 1992 added water conservation standards for showerheads, and EPCA’s definition of a showerhead includes handheld heads. A handheld listed at 2.5 gpm is therefore in the same class as a fixed head at 2.5 gpm.
The Shift+ listing is the one to check first. It gives a maximum of 2.5 gpm (9.5 lpm) and also names WaterSense (EPA criteria). EPA’s WaterSense technical sheet tells installers to verify the gpm marking on the showerhead, so read the marking on the head itself before you decide.
The products
Kohler 72415-G-CP Awaken G110 handheld, 1.75 gpm
Type: handheld. The listing says 1.75 gpm (6.6 lpm), the lowest flow in this group. It names three sprays, wide coverage, intense drenching and targeted, plus a pause feature described in the description. A thumb tab changes the spray mode, and the face is a MasterClean sprayface. The finish is polished chrome. Mounting is by wall-mount bracket, slidebar or deck-mount holder, with mounting accessories not included. The shower hose is sold separately, and the listing does not state its length.
The listing names WaterSense (EPA criteria) and California Energy Commission registration. The EPA pages we opened do not name individual models, so the WaterSense claim is unconfirmed here, but the 1.75 gpm figure is consistent with the 2.0 gpm limit.
Skip if you need a hose or a mount in the box, since neither is included.
Limitation: the title and bullets say three-function while the description says four-function, so the listing does not settle the number of functions.
Kohler 72415-Y-CP Awaken G110 handheld, 2.5 gpm
Type: handheld. The title says 2.5 gpm, and the listing does not give L/min. It carries the same Awaken G110 name as the 1.75 gpm model under a different suffix, -Y-CP. The description names three sprays, wide coverage, intense drenching and targeted, plus a pause feature, and says it is a wall-mount handshower. The face is a MasterClean sprayface, per the listing notes. The finish is polished chrome. Included items, hose length and material are not stated.
Certification is not stated for this model. The listing directs warranty requests to customer service. At the title’s 2.5 gpm, a 10 minute shower would use 25 gallons on the same arithmetic as above.
Skip if you need 2.0 gpm or less, since this listing gives 2.5 gpm and no WaterSense label.
Limitation: the model shares a name with the 1.75 gpm listing, so confirm the -Y-CP suffix and the 2.5 gpm title before you order.
Kohler 21335-CP Shift+ Round two-function handshower, 2.5 gpm
Type: handheld. Its maximum flow is listed as 2.5 gpm (9.5 lpm). It names two sprays, full coverage and targeted massage, and describes Katalyst air infusion at 2 liters of air per minute. Two buttons change the spray mode, and the face is a MasterClean sprayface. The finish is polished chrome. The listing says the head mounts on a wall bracket, a slidebar or a deck-mount holder, and it recommends K-14791, K-9069 or K-14789 as mounting accessories, which are not included. Hose length is not stated, and the shower hose is sold separately.
The listing also names WaterSense (EPA criteria) and California Energy Commission registration. That conflicts with the 2.5 gpm maximum, because the EPA limit for WaterSense labeled heads is 2.0 gpm.
Skip if the WaterSense label matters to your purchase, because this listing states both a 2.5 gpm maximum and the label, and the two do not agree.
Limitation: the mounting accessories and the hose are separate purchases, and the listing does not state the arm length or the material.
Kohler 22166-CP Purist four-function handshower, 2.5 gpm
Type: handheld. Per the listing, flow tops out at 2.5 gpm (9.5 lpm). The title says four-function, while the bullets say three sprays: full coverage, pulsating massage and silk spray. The description adds Katalyst air infusion at 2 liters of air per minute. The thumb tab switches spray modes, and the face is a MasterClean sprayface. The finish is polished chrome, which the listing says resists corrosion and tarnishing. The listing names several standards, including ASME A112.18.1/CSA B125.1 and CSA B651, and lists the DOE Energy Policy Act of 1992 as met.
Mounting is by wall bracket, slidebar or deck-mount holder. Mounting accessories and the shower hose are not included, and the listing names K-8593 or K-9514 as hose options. For a bar that holds the head, see shower bar options for a fixed or handheld head.
Skip if you need a hose or a mount in the box, since neither is included with the handheld.
Limitation: the four-function title and the three-spray bullets disagree, and the listing does not say which is right.
Kohler 22165-CP Forté four-function handshower, 2.5 gpm
Type: handheld. The listed ceiling is 2.5 gpm (9.5 lpm). The title says four-function, and the bullets and description name three sprays: full coverage, pulsating massage and silk spray. Katalyst air infusion is named, with no air figure given. A thumb tab changes spray modes, and the face is a MasterClean sprayface. The finish is polished chrome, and the listing says it resists corrosion and tarnishing. The listing describes a classic style.
Mounting is by bracket or slidebar for a wall mount, or a deck-mount holder. Mounting accessories and the shower hose are not included. The listing names K-8593 or K-9514 as shower hose options sold separately.
Skip if you want a combo head, since this listing covers a handheld only.
Limitation: the hose and mount are separate purchases, so a working setup needs parts the listing does not include. The flow and the three spray names match the Purist in this guide, so the two listings differ mainly in style wording.
Kohler Prone 3-in-1 combo with PowerSweep
Type: combo kit. The kit has a showerhead and a PowerSweep handshower that docks magnetically on a holder. Flow is not stated. The bullets name four spray options, full coverage, powerful massage, gentle mist and PowerSweep, while the description says three spray settings. The listing says the showerhead tilts, and the description gives a 72 inch hose. The finish is chrome, with ScratchShield technology that the listing says resists corrosion and tarnishing. The description also says DOE CCMS Certified.
The listing names the PowerSweep jet for cleaning shower walls and removing mud from shoes. It also says the single-function showerhead can be used as a rainhead, and it lists a water-saving pause feature. If you need a different hose length, see longer hoses and arm extensions.
Skip if you need a stated flow rate, since this listing gives none.
Limitation: the bullets list four sprays and the description lists three, so check the spray count against the item you receive.
Kohler 23218-BN Awaken 2-in-1 combo kit, 2.5 gpm
Type: combo kit with a showerhead and a handshower on a rotating rail. The listing gives 2.5 GPM (9.5 lpm) maximum at 45 psi (3.1 bar). Each head has three sprays: wide coverage, intense drenching and targeted. The finish is Vibrant Brushed Nickel. The kit includes the showerhead, the handshower and a 60 inch (1524 mm) metal hose. The description says the rail positions both heads.
The listing calls the pause feature water-saving. It names no certification, and the material and mount hardware are not stated.
Skip if you need a stated certification, since the listing names none.
Limitation: the 45 psi reference is the only pressure in the Kohler listings, and no flow figure is given at other pressures. It is also the middle of the three flowing pressures the EPA spec names, but the listing does not say how flow changes at 20 or 80 psi.
The table uses only listing facts. The last column is the listed flow multiplied by 10 minutes, so it is arithmetic on the listing figure.
| Model | Type | Flow (listing) | Finish (listing) | Hose (listing) | Gallons in 10 minutes (gpm x 10) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 72415-G-CP Awaken G110 | Handheld | 1.75 gpm (6.6 lpm) | Polished Chrome | not stated; sold separately | 17.5 |
| 72415-Y-CP Awaken G110 | Handheld | 2.5 gpm (title) | Polished Chrome | not stated | 25 |
| 21335-CP Shift+ Round | Handheld | 2.5 gpm (9.5 lpm) maximum | Polished Chrome | not stated; sold separately | 25 |
| 22166-CP Purist | Handheld | 2.5 gpm (9.5 lpm) maximum | Polished Chrome | not stated; sold separately; K-8593 or K-9514 named | 25 |
| 22165-CP Forté | Handheld | 2.5 gpm (9.5 lpm) maximum | Polished Chrome | not stated; sold separately; K-8593 or K-9514 named | 25 |
| K-R31657-G-CP Prone 3-in-1 | Combo | not stated | Chrome | 72 inch (description) | not stated |
| 23218-BN Awaken 2-in-1 | Combo | 2.5 gpm (9.5 lpm) maximum at 45 psi | Vibrant Brushed Nickel | 60 in metal | 25 |
What we could not verify: what the sources do not say
- Shower arm thread size: no source we opened gives it, and none of the Kohler listings states it. Check the arm or the manual before buying.
- WaterSense status by model: the EPA pages we opened do not name individual models. The Shift+ listing conflicts with the 2.0 gpm limit.
- Pressure at which each listed flow was measured: only the 23218-BN states a pressure, 45 psi. No other Kohler listing says it.
- Spray force: none of the Kohler listings states it.
- Pressure change: no source we opened says a head changes the pressure your house supplies.
- Pressure range for showers: the only residential range in the sources is the irrigation figure of about 40 to 60 psi.
- Finish care: the manufacturer care pages were not reached, so the sources do not give soak limits for polished chrome, brushed nickel or any other finish listed here.
- Cleaning schedule: the New Jersey guidance says mineral deposits can block nozzles but does not give a schedule.
- Hose length for the handhelds: the listings say the hose is sold separately, and none gives a length for it.
- EPA spec version: the PDF we read is labeled Version 1.0, and EPA says Version 1.1 made minor changes.
Frequently asked questions
Will a Kohler handheld raise the pressure my house supplies?
No source we opened says it does. The Kohler listings give flow figures and spray settings, not supply pressure. Because flow is judged across the range of household pressures, the gpm on a listing is a rated figure, not a promise at your faucet.
Is a Kohler handheld shower head WaterSense labeled?
Two listings name WaterSense (EPA criteria): the 1.75 gpm Awaken G110 72415-G-CP and the 2.5 gpm Shift+ 21335-CP. The EPA pages we opened set 2.0 gpm as the limit, so the G110 figure fits and the Shift+ figure does not. Check the marking on the head before you rely on either label.
Do I need to buy the shower hose separately?
For the handhelds, usually. Four of the five say the hose and mounting accessories are not included, and the fifth does not state its hose. The two combo kits include a hose: the 23218-BN has a 60 inch metal hose, and the Prone combo lists a 72 inch hose in its description. The DOE installer job aid says to use thread tape at all connections.
Can I mount a Kohler handheld on a slide bar?
Four of the five handhelds name a slidebar among their mount options. Mounting accessories are not included with those four. For slide bars that do not need drilling, see slide bars that install without drilling. For handheld slide bar options, see slide bar mounts for handheld heads.
How often should I clean the nozzles?
New Jersey’s health department guidance notes that mineral deposits can block nozzles. It describes soaking the head in distilled white vinegar overnight and clearing clogged holes with a needle or straightened paper clip. It gives no schedule. The listings name a MasterClean sprayface, but none states how often to clean it. Check the finish before a soak, since the sources do not give soak limits for chrome or brushed nickel.
Which Kohler combo kit includes a hose?
Both do. The Awaken 2-in-1 kit, 23218-BN, includes a 60 inch (1524 mm) metal hose, and the Prone 3-in-1 combo lists a 72 inch hose in its description. The Prone listing does not state the hose material, so compare the two before you order.
Bottom line
If the marking on the head shows 2.0 gpm or less, the 72415-G-CP at 1.75 gpm is the lowest listed option; if it does not, choose by the hose and mount you need, because the other listings all state 2.5 gpm or no flow.
