Wood Shower Tray
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Details
Someone searching for a wood shower tray usually wants a small wooden tray, dish or shelf that sits in the shower, holds soap or bottles, and does not fall apart when it gets wet. Amazon’s results for this phrase are mixed: most are wooden bathtub trays that span a tub, plus teak shower mats and vanity trays for the counter. This guide covers only wooden items that their own listings say are for the shower: two soap-dish trays and one teak corner caddy. It does not cover the floor base some people also call a shower tray. We did not test any of these products; every figure below comes from the Amazon listing as read on 2026-10-18.
Quick answer
Only three listings we opened clearly sell a wooden holder for shower use. For a bar of soap, the HTB teak dishes state a slanted, self-draining design and a 4.7 x 3 inch size. The Vowupt set also drains through slots but its listing gives two different sizes. For bottles and a brush, the Utoplike teak caddy is the only one of the three with shelves, but it is a freestanding 12 x 8 inch unit, not a tray you hang up, and its listing does not say how it handles standing water. Whichever you choice, wood is the one material on this list that needs to dry out between showers. See the moisture section below.
What “wood shower tray” covers on Amazon
Search results for the phrase sort into four groups. Only the first group fits a shower:
- Soap-dish trays and small caddies for the shower. These are the three products covered here.
- Wooden bathtub trays. Teak, bamboo or acacia boards that rest across the tub rim. Their listings talk about wine glasses, tablets and books. They are a different product and a different guide.
- Teak or bamboo shower mats. Floor slats, not trays.
- Vanity or riser trays. Decorative trays for the countertop.
If you wanted a bath-table style tray for the tub, none of the three below is it. If you want a larger wooden or bamboo caddy instead, the bamboo bathroom caddy guide and the wooden bath caddy guide on this site cover related choices.
What the three listings state
The table gives only what each listing says. “Not stated” means the product page we opened does not give that fact.
| Listing | Wood (as stated) | Size (as stated) | What it holds | Drainage (as stated) | Mounting |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vowupt wooden soap dish, set of 2 | “Wood” in the spec field; the page text also mentions bamboo and wood | 4.33 x 3.15 x 0.82 in (bullet) or 5.43 x 3.35 in (spec field): conflict | Bar soap, sponge, brush | Hollowed wooden strips and a raised base, “360 ventilation” | Sits on a surface |
| HTB teak soap dishes, 2 pack | Teak, “one solid piece” | 4.7 x 3 x 0.74 in (bullet); 4.72 x 3.07 in (spec field) | Bar soap | Slanted self-draining sink and grooves | Sits on a surface |
| Utoplike teak shower caddy, 2 tier | Teak, described as “grade A”; finish listed as varnished | 12 D x 8 W x 17.3 H in | Shampoo, towels, lotion, bath salts, bar soap | “Drain fast ventilated and hollow design” | Freestanding or tabletop; not wall-mounted |

Wood in a shower: the moisture rule
The first question for any wood item in a shower is how long it stays wet. Oregon State University Extension’s wood preservation manual says fungi will not attack dry wood, meaning wood at 19 percent moisture content or less, and that decay fungi need a moisture content of about 30 percent, the generally accepted fiber saturation point. It calls air-dried wood, usually not above 19 percent, and kiln-dried wood at 15 percent or less, safe from fungal damage. Read that as a design target, not a promise about any product: a tray that drains and gets air between showers stays on the dry side of those figures, and a tray sitting in a puddle does not.
The EPA’s mold guide makes the same point for the room as a whole. It says to dry water-damaged areas and items within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth, and it recommends running the bathroom fan or opening a window when showering. We use those two sources only for the general principle. Neither says anything about teak, soap dishes or these three products, and none of the listings gives a moisture or water-resistance figure.
What the listings do say about wood:
- The HTB listing says teak “is often used for boat building and exterior construction.” That is the seller’s claim. We did not open a source on teak, so we do not repeat it as fact.
- The Utoplike listing says the teak’s “color darkens as it ages” and that its hardness is higher than bamboo’s. Again, a seller claim.
- The Vowupt listing tells buyers not to set the dish “on wet surface with water underneath,” which is the seller’s own care instruction.
Practical consequence: a wooden dish should sit where it can drain onto a surface that also dries, not into a shallow pool. The listings do not describe a sealant or water-resistant coating on the dishes, so do not assume one.
The three choices
1. HTB teak soap dishes, 2 pack: the clearest drainage description
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-18): teak wood; two dishes per pack; each dish 4.7 x 3 x 0.74 inches (12 x 7.8 x 1.7 cm) in the bullet, 4.72 x 3.07 inches in the spec field, so the two agree; 6 ounces for the pair; the listing says the dishes have grooves to stop the soap sliding and a self-draining inclined sink; the spec field lists uses as bathtub, kitchen, shower and sink. The listing calls each dish one solid piece of teak and the wood “non-toxic,” both seller claims.
Pros: the size is stated consistently; the slanted design is described in detail; two dishes let you keep one in the shower and one at the sink. Cons: holds a single bar of soap, not bottles; the listing gives no finish, so you do not know if the wood is sealed; the second dish adds nothing if you only need one.
Best for: bar soap in a shower that dries between uses. Skip if: you want a tray for bottles or a loofah.

2. Vowupt wooden soap dish, set of 2: slotted, but the size conflicts
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-18): wood; brown; two dishes; the bullet gives 4.33 x 3.15 x 0.82 inches while the spec field gives 5.43 x 3.35 inches, so one of the two is wrong or they measure different things; spec weight 3.52 ounces for the set. The listing describes hollowed wooden strips and a raised base for ventilation and self-draining, says each dish is handcrafted and “unique,” and says it can hold soap, a sponge or a brush. A product-description line mentions “natural bamboo and wood,” so the material is not stated as one species. The listing also offers a three-piece choice.
Pros: slotted strips and a raised base are the most open drainage design of the three; light at 3.52 ounces for two. Cons: conflicting sizes; the wood species and finish are not stated; handcrafted means individual dishes may vary, as the listing itself says.
Best for: a light, open dish for the shower floor ledge or a shelf. Skip if: you need to know the exact dimensions to fit a niche before you buy.

3. Utoplike teak shower caddy, 2 tier: the only one with shelves
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-18): teak, varnished finish; 12 inches deep, 8 inches wide, 17.3 inches high; 2.31 pounds; two compartments; the spec field lists a maximum weight recommendation of 15 pounds; mounting type tabletop; “Specific uses” lists showers; the listing says installation accessories, tools and instructions are included. The listing also pitches the unit for bathroom counters and the kitchen, so it is not a shower-only design.
Pros: room for bottles, a brush and bar soap in one footprint; the 15 pound figure is stated; hollow shelves for drainage. Cons: the listing does not say whether the 15 pounds is per shelf or for the whole unit; it does not say whether the unit is meant to stand in running water; it needs assembly; a 12 x 8 inch footprint is large for a small shower.
Best for: a shower with floor space in a corner or a bathroom counter next to the tub. Skip if: your shower is a narrow stall, or if you want something that hangs on the wall.

A fit check you can do with a tape measure
Use the listed sizes to see whether each item has a place to go before you order. The figures below are from the listings; your own measurements fill in the rest.
| Item | Footprint (listing) | Footprint area | What to measure at home |
|---|---|---|---|
| HTB dish | 4.7 x 3 in | 14.1 sq in | A flat ledge at least 4.7 x 3 in that drains toward the tub or floor |
| Vowupt dish (bullet size) | 4.33 x 3.15 in | 13.6 sq in | The same ledge; allow for the larger 5.43 x 3.35 in (18.2 sq in) in case that spec is right |
| Utoplike caddy | 12 x 8 in | 96 sq in | A 12 x 8 in patch of floor or counter and 17.3 in of clear height |
Worked example: a niche shelf that is 5 inches deep and 12 inches wide has an area of 60 square inches. Both dishes fit with room to spare (13.6 to 18.2 square inches each, 14.1 for the HTB), and two dishes side by side would take 28.2 to 36.4 square inches. The Utoplike caddy, at 96 square inches, would not fit on that shelf at all. If you have no ledge, a floor or counter corner is the only place the caddy works.
Mistakes to avoid
- Buying a bath tray by mistake. A tub tray listing talks about wine glasses and tablets. Check that the title says shower or soap.
- Trusting a single size. The Vowupt listing gives two sizes. Allow for the larger one.
- Leaving wood in a puddle. The Vowupt seller’s own instructions say not to set the dish on a wet surface with water underneath.
- Assuming a finish. None of the three listings names a sealant or oil. If it matters to you, ask the seller before you buy.
- Counting on weight limits you cannot read. The Utoplike 15 pound figure does not say per shelf or total.
Who should skip a wooden tray
Skip wood if your shower rarely dries out, if it has no fan or window, or if you want a set-and-forget item. A tray made of stainless steel or plastic cannot decay the way wood can, although metal has its own care needs. Our shower soap holder guide covers non-wood dishes.
FAQ
Is a wood shower tray the same as a shower tray?
Not always. Some people use shower tray for the base you stand on. This guide covers small wooden trays, dishes and caddies for holding soap and bottles in a shower, as the three listings describe them.
Will a wooden soap dish rot in the shower?
Oregon State University Extension says fungi will not attack wood at 19 percent moisture content or less and that decay fungi need about 30 percent. A dish that drains and dries between showers stays on the safer side of that range; a dish sitting in standing water does not. None of the listings gives a water-resistance rating.
Is teak the best wood for a shower?
The HTB and Utoplike listings both present teak as durable, but those are seller claims and we did not open an independent source on teak. The Vowupt listing does not name a species. We cannot rank wood types from the listing data.
Can I use a wooden bathtub tray in the shower?
The wooden bathtub trays in the same search results are designed to span a tub. Their listings do not describe use inside a shower, so we did not include them.
How do I keep a wooden tray from getting moldy?
Let it drain and dry. The EPA mold guide says to dry wet items within 24 to 48 hours and to run the bathroom fan or open a window while showering. These are general moisture rules, not instructions from any seller.
Choice rule
If you want a dish for bar soap, choose the HTB teak dishes because the listing gives consistent dimensions and a clear drainage design. If you want the most open slotted design and can live with a size conflict, choose the Vowupt set. If you need shelves for bottles and have floor or counter space, choose the Utoplike caddy, and ask the seller what the 15 pound limit covers. In every case, give the wood time to dry between showers.
