Good Shower Heads

A good shower head is the one that suits your shower: the water flow your plumbing delivers, the height of the arm, and whether you want a fixed head, a handheld or both. It does not create pressure that your pipes do not supply; it changes how the water leaves the face. This guide compares eight shower heads whose Amazon listings were read on 2026-10-17, from a 1.75 gallon-per-minute fixed head to a 2.5 gpm two-in-one combo with a magnetic dock. Each card gives the flow rate, spray settings, size, finish and any place where the listing contradicts itself. We have not tested any of these shower heads, so every figure here is the listing’s own.
Quick answer
For a simple fixed head with a lower flow: the Delta 52535 6-inch. Its listing gives 1.75 gpm, a pause setting and Touch-Clean spray holes. Note that the title says six settings and the spec table says five. For a rain head plus a handheld: the Moen 26009 Engage Magnetix (2.5 gpm maximum, a 60 inch metal hose and a 3-way diverter). For a handheld on a slide bar: the Moen Ignite 20090, whose item type field lists a 69 inch hose and a 30 inch slide bar. Check the current price on Amazon for each.
How we chose
We searched Amazon on 2026-10-17 for “good shower heads”, “shower head” and for Moen and Delta models, and opened the product pages. A product made the list if it is a complete shower head (not a filter or an accessory), the listing states its flow rate or lets us read it from the title, and it represents a different type: fixed, rain, handheld, or two-in-one combo. We left out filtered heads, kids’ heads, and anything with no flow rate anywhere on the page.
Five criteria set the order: stated flow rate, number of settings, how it mounts, what it is made of and the warranty the listing names. The listings do not say whether a head carries the EPA WaterSense label, so this guide does not either. What they do give is a flow rate, and that is the number to compare with the 2.5 gpm and 2.0 gpm figures below. All specs come from the listings, checked 2026-10-17.
Flow rate: what the numbers mean
The EPA’s WaterSense page says standard showerheads use 2.5 gallons per minute and that WaterSense labeled showerheads must demonstrate that they use no more than 2.0 gpm, with a minimum flow across a range of household water pressures. Among the eight heads here, one lists 2.5 gpm as a maximum (Moen 26009), one lists 2.5 gpm in the title (Delta 75490SN), one lists 2.5 gpm in the title and the specs (Moen 20090), four list 1.75 or 1.8 gpm, and the JDO lists no flow rate. A listing flow rate is a rated maximum, not the flow you will get at your tap.

The eight shower heads
1. Delta 6-Setting Chrome Shower Head, 52535: a fixed head with a pause setting
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 3.69 x 6 in, 1.19 pounds, plastic with a chrome finish, wall mounted, 1.75 gpm. The listing describes a full-body spray, a pause setting that cuts the water to a trickle (it says for lathering a pet or shaving), and Touch-Clean spray holes you wipe with a finger. It says the finish is third-party certified and tested for corrosion resistance, and carries a lifetime limited warranty.
Conflict: the title says 6-Setting and the spec table says 5. Cons: no handheld, and the body is plastic.
Best for: a replacement for a fixed head on an existing arm. Skip if: you want a hose or a rain-size face.

2. Moen 26009 Engage Magnetix 2-in-1: rain head and handshower on a magnetic dock
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 7.25 x 6.5 in, 1.5 pounds, metal and nickel, chrome finish, 2.5 gpm maximum, a 60 in metal hose. The rainshower has one spray function and the handshower has six. A 3-way diverter runs the rainshower, the handshower or both. The listing gives a 6.75 in spray face and says the combination is about 17-3/4 in tall when docked, with a limited lifetime warranty.
Pros: the metal hose is long enough to rinse a tub or a pet, per the listing. Cons: 2.5 gpm is the highest flow in this list, and the height when docked means you should check your ceiling and arm.
Best for: a household that wants a handheld without giving up an overhead rain head. Skip if: you want a lower-flow head.

3. Moen Ignite 20090: a handheld on a 30 inch slide bar
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 7.62 x 5.37 in, 8.3 ounces, plastic, chrome, five spray functions and 2.5 gpm maximum. The item type field reads “handheld showerhead with 69-inch-long hose featuring 30-inch slide bar”. The listing says it complies with ADA specifications and carries a limited lifetime warranty.
Conflict: the title calls it a shower head, while the item type describes a hose and slide bar set. Read the page to confirm what is in the box. Cons: plastic construction.
Best for: shared showers with different heights, or a seated shower; see our guide to handheld shower heads for seniors. Skip if: you want a metal body.

4. HOPOPRO 5-Mode Fixed Showerhead, 21651: a small fixed head with a stated “high pressure” wording
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 4.13 x 4.13 in, 9.9 ounces, ABS plastic, chrome, 1.8 gpm, five settings. A 4.1 in panel with 66 nozzles, a universal G1/2 inch thread and a 360 degree brass ball joint. The package includes a wrench, instructions and Teflon tape, with a 1 year warranty.
Note: the title and listing use the words “high pressure”. A fixed head changes how the stream leaves the face; it does not add pressure to your plumbing. The listing also cites media mentions and Consumer Reports testing, which we cannot verify here and do not repeat. Cons: 1 year warranty.
Best for: a budget fixed replacement with a small face. Skip if: you want a handheld or a longer warranty.

5. SparkPod Rain Shower Head, 6 inch: a rain face with 90 jets
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 3.27 x 6.3 in, 8.6 ounces, ABS plastic, chrome, one setting, 90 flexible rubber jets, wall mounted. The listing says it ships at 1.8 gpm and describes an included 2.5 gpm restrictor; that is the seller’s option and not something this guide advises on. Plumber’s tape is included, with a 1 year warranty plus a 30-day money-back guarantee. The listing says that for straight-down overhead rain you pair it with an S-shaped extension arm sold separately.
Pros: wide face and rubber jets you wipe clean. Cons: one setting, and no overhead rain unless you buy an extension arm.
Best for: an existing arm and a wide, even spray. Skip if: you want spray choices.

Conflict: the title says 2.5 GPM but the spec table has no flow rate field. Confirm it on the page. Cons: the warranty is not stated in the text we read.
Best for: a two-in-one replacement in brushed nickel. Skip if: you need a confirmed flow rate or warranty before buying.

7. JDO High-Pressure 6-Setting Handheld, AM5H501CP: a handheld with six modes
Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-17): 10 x 4.7 in, 1.45 pounds, ABS, chrome, a 59 in stainless hose and an adjustable holder, with 54 anti-clog nozzles. The six modes are rain, massage, mist, power spray, mixed and pause. The listing says it installs by hand in under a minute and has a 12 month warranty. It states no flow rate in the specs we read.
Note: the listing says “air-induction technology” delivers a powerful stream even at low pressure. That is the seller’s claim and we cannot check it. Cons: no flow rate, so you cannot compare it with the 2.5 and 2.0 gpm figures above.
Best for: a handheld on a holder with a pause mode. Skip if: you want a stated flow rate; see our guide to water-efficient handheld shower heads instead.

Conflict: the title says 1.8GPM and the spec table says 1.75 GPM. Cons: at 4 pounds it is the heaviest head here, and the warranty is not stated in the text we read.
Best for: a big rain face plus a handheld in one purchase. Skip if: your arm or ceiling cannot hold or fit a 12 inch head.

Worked example: what flow rate means in gallons
This is arithmetic from listing flow rates, not a measurement of your shower. Take an 8-minute shower.
- A 2.5 gpm head uses up to 2.5 x 8 = 20 gallons.
- A 2.0 gpm head (the WaterSense ceiling in the EPA page above) uses up to 16 gallons.
- A 1.75 gpm head (the Delta 52535) uses up to 14 gallons, which is 6 gallons less than the 2.5 gpm head per shower.
Across four such showers a day, that 6 gallon gap is 24 gallons a day. These are rated maximums from the listings; your own flow depends on your plumbing. Only you can say whether a lower flow still feels right, which is why a pause or a handheld may matter more than a number.
Mistakes to avoid
- Expecting a head to fix weak pressure. A shower head cannot add pressure your plumbing does not supply. If the water is weak at every tap, the cause is not the head.
- Comparing titles instead of tables. Several listings here give two different numbers for flow or settings. Read the spec table.
- Forgetting the docked height of a combo. The Moen 26009 listing says about 17-3/4 inches tall when docked.
- Skipping the manual on fit. The HOPOPRO listing says its G1/2 inch thread fits standard shower arms. We did not open a plumbing source, so check your arm and the manual for tape and gasket needs, and do not over-tighten.
Who should skip buying a new shower head
If the problem is that the water is weak or the temperature swings, a new head is unlikely to fix it. If you want a handheld on an adjustable bar, see our guides to handheld shower heads on a slide bar and the Moen dual shower head with slide bar, which cover those in more depth.
FAQ
What is the best shower head overall?
There is no single best. For a simple fixed head with a stated 1.75 gpm, the Delta 52535 is the clearest in this list. For a rain head plus handheld, the Moen 26009 gives a 60 inch metal hose and a 3-way diverter. For a handheld on a slide bar, the Moen Ignite 20090 lists a 30 inch bar.
Does a high-pressure shower head increase water pressure?
No. A shower head cannot add pressure that your plumbing does not supply. A listing that says “high pressure” describes how the stream leaves the face. If the water is weak at every tap in the home, check the supply side first.
What flow rate should a shower head have?
The EPA’s WaterSense page says standard showerheads use 2.5 gpm and WaterSense labeled ones must use no more than 2.0 gpm. The listings here run from 1.75 gpm (Delta 52535) to 2.5 gpm (Moen 26009 and Moen 20090). Choose the lowest flow that still feels right to you.
Will these shower heads fit my shower arm?
The HOPOPRO lists a universal G1/2 inch thread, and several listings here (HOPOPRO, SparkPod, JDO) say they install on a standard arm without tools. The listings are the seller’s statement, so check your arm and the manual for tape and gasket needs.
Is a handheld shower head better than a fixed one?
It depends on use. A handheld on a hose helps with rinsing, cleaning the tub, pets, or sitting down; the Moen 26009 and BOZYBO listings mention rinsing the tub or bathing pets. A fixed head is simpler and has no hose to hang. A combo like the Moen 26009 gives both.
